Common Questions About Yin Yoga

1. What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a slow, gentle practice where postures are held for longer periods (typically 3–5 minutes). This allows for deep stretching, relaxation, and release in the body, while also supporting mindfulness and stress relief.

2. How is Yin Yoga different from other types of yoga?

Unlike more active or “flow” styles, Yin Yoga focuses on stillness and deep tissue release rather than movement or building heat. It targets the connective tissues—ligaments, joints, and fascia—while also calming the nervous system.

3. Do I need previous yoga experience to join?
Not at all. Yin Yoga is accessible for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Poses are supported with props and can be modified for comfort, making it welcoming to all levels.

4. What should I bring to class?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to relax fully. Bring a yoga mat, water, and any props you may like (such as a blanket, bolster, or block). Blocks, bolsters, and blankets are available in class.

5. What are the benefits of Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga can improve flexibility, increase joint mobility, reduce stress, calm the mind, and support emotional balance. Many participants find it especially helpful for grounding and deep relaxation.

6. How long is a class?
Group Yin Yoga classes last 60 minutes, allowing time to settle in, move through the postures, and end with a restorative final relaxation.

7. How often should I attend?
Even one class per week can provide benefits. Many people choose to attend regularly as part of their self-care routine to reduce stress and support overall wellness.

8. Can Yin Yoga help with mental health?
Yes. While yoga is not a replacement for therapy, Yin Yoga supports mindfulness, nervous system regulation, and relaxation—all of which can complement mental health care and DBT counseling.

9. Do I need to be flexible to do Yin Yoga?
Not at all. Yin Yoga is about meeting your body where it is. Props and modifications make the practice adaptable to every body type and level of flexibility.

10. How do I sign up for a class?
